For years now, fans have campaigned for Link to return in future SoulCalibur games (here’s hoping for that SoulCalibur VI Switch port), which is something that I think we can all get behind.Every character returning to Soulcalibur's stage of history listed, plus videos of them in action.īack when Soulcalibur 6 (and yes, that's not missing a space - it really is written like that, not Soul Calibur 6) was announced at The Game Awards 2017, it was announced in a predictable manner - debuted with two of the most classic, beloved characters from the Soul series that began with Soul Edge and truly ascended to fighting game legend status with Soulcalibur. It’s just so cool to see him being considered as a true warrior, something which the Legend of Zelda franchise aims for but never quite achieves. He is both a blast to use and a challenge to master and could not fit in any better. There’s the green tunic, the red one, the blue one and the violet one.

Link also features the most alternative outfits which can be worn in battle. He was included in SoulCalibur II but his fighting style has featured in multiple games in the series to an extent. He primarily uses his sword and shield but can deploy many of the items from The Legend of Zelda, including a boomerang, bow and bombs.

This is mostly due to just how damn well he fits into the series, bringing with him a host of magical and weapon-based combat. Regardless, seeing Kratos tear apart his enemies as a bonafide fighting game champion is worth the muddy visuals.Īnd now, a decision that will surprise literally no one, Link is the best SoulCalibur guest character of all time. Kratos has always starred in games which push the graphical limits of the hardware they are on so it’s a little jarring to see him rendered so crudely here. His Critical Finish uses the same mini-game system from his fight with Ares in the first God of War, which is a cool little nod. Using the Blades of Chaos to pull enemies closer gives off some serious Scorpion from Mortal Kombat vibes, begging the question as to why Kratos hasn’t been featured in more fighting games.īeing the God of War and all, Kratos is a particularly aggressive character with a slow but violent fighting style. He’s wonderfully true to character and seems to be totally in his element in the SoulCalibur universe. Kratos is appropriately pissed off and embarks on a blood-soaked rampage to get himself back home. Kratos is brought into the SoulCalibur dimension by a man fooling around with forbidden texts.

Kratos is a perfect fit for SoulCalibur and his appearance in the excellent PSP exclusive, SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny, is a real joy to behold, albeit a very violent one. Ultimately though, weapons are an integral part of the SoulCalibur series meaning that, despite the great narrative surrounding him, Heihachi falls a little short in terms of being fun to play. This plot-line is surprisingly deep for a guest character, with its climactic finale, which sees Heihachi thrown into the Vortex of Chaos, being one of the best endings of any of the games so far. He cuts his hand on a Soul Edge and comes to in a new world he does not recognize. He is transported to the world of SoulCalibur while hiking and training with his pet bear Kuma. Heihachi chooses to train his body rather than rely on the Devil Gene like Devil Jin and the rest of the Mishima clan, utilizing his fists and arm guards to deal crazy damage. Overall, he is generally considered to be the most competent of the Soul Calibur 2 guest characters. He is the second character in SoulCalibur to not use any weapons, with even his Ultimate Weapon being his fists. The first Tekken character on the list, Heihachi Mishima, relies on his Iron Fists and physical power to dominate his foes which, considering everyone else has giant swords and axes, is pretty ballsy.
